About the event

Ticket Details:

Students can attend all or any of the days. At check-out, you can select the days individually, or book all 5 day at once (and save $25!).

Class Descriptions:

Monday: This class is about mixing colors. We will use colored pencils to fill in a color wheel and will learn about Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary colors. The art project for the day is a painted paper collage. We will use tempura paint for this project. The students will have the opportunity to mix red and yellow paint to make orange, blue and yellow paint to make green, and red and blue paint to make purple.

Tuesday: In this class we will learn that warm colors and cool colors are analogous colors, which means side by side on the color wheel. There are two projects included in this session. The first will be a study of warm colors vs cool colors. The students will use markers to create contrasting works of art. The second art project will be to create a Neurographic art piece. This art form was designed in 2014 by Russian psychologist, Avel Piskarov. Each student will use the color wheel to select analogous colors for the project. They will mix their colors with watercolor paint and paint their Neurographic design on watercolor paper.

Wednesday: During this session students will be introduced to monochromatic colors using tints and shades, to create depth in their art. They will practice creating gradients by controlling how hard or lightly they hold a pencil. The project of the day is a still life using tints and shades for the highlights and shadows. We will practice with graphite and colored pencils and then create our final still life out of construction paper and charcoal pencils.

Thursday: The subject of this session is color harmonies. We will select colors that go together. The projects will be to create a study of complementary colors with pastels and triadic color scheme with tempura paint.

Friday: This class will get to tour the museum at the Stanwood Area Historical Society. They will have the opportunity to view the Legacy Art Collection Exhibit at the Floyd then the students will become Legacy Art Collection Artists themselves. Each student will select an artifact in the museum to paint.
